A teenager accused of fracturing the skull of a woman by striking her several times with a baseball bat has again appeared in court.

The 17-year-old allegedly attacked the passer-by in the street in broad daylight last week, leaving her with a bleed on the brain.

He was brought in custody to Plymouth Magistrates’ Court charged with causing grievous bodily harm to the woman with intent at 6.30pm on Wednesday August 7.

The teenager, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, is also accused of having a baseball bat as an offensive weapon at the time in the area of Eldad Hill in Stonehouse.

He did not enter pleas pending a psychiatric report.

But district judge Diana Baker entered a not guilty plea on his behalf and ruled that the case should be heard at Plymouth Crown Court.

Phil Sewell, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “From the papers, the defendant, having gone with a baseball bat, struck the victim several times.

“Injuries amount to a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain. There will be a full series of brain scans to determine the full nature of the injury.”

The 17-year-old was remanded into youth detention to appear at the senior court on September 16.
