A thug faces jail for attacking two police officers – badly hurting one of them.

Stephen Lomax, aged 25, also assaulted a detention officer at Charles Cross police station.

A judge released him on bail from Plymouth Crown Court for a probation report.

Recorder Paul Garlick told him: “Don’t take the fact that you are being released on bail as any indication of how this matter will be sentenced.”

Lomax pleaded guilty to assaulting PC Jody Preshous causing actual bodily harm in the custody suite of the police station on March 2.

He also admitted assaulting his colleague Sgt Tim Hinde as an emergency worker during the incident.

Lomax, of Holmes Aveue, Efford, finally pleaded guilty to an assaulting detention officer as an emergency worker.

Parliament has recently created a new law and upped sentences for offenders who assault emergency workers.

Ali Rafati, for Lomax, said the defendant was working and the probation service was willing to work with him – if he avoided jail.

He added that Lomax had several previous convictions.

Recorder Garlick adjourned sentencing until August 21.
