An actor from Plymouth has shared the surprise moment that he was involved in an impromptu pub singalong with stage legend Sir Ian McKellen.

Les Mis actor and former St Boniface's Catholic College pupil Jordan Simon Pollard appeared in the brilliant Instagram video showing Sir Ian, along with other cast members, involved in a rendition One Day More at a Newcastle pub.

The Lord of the Rings star had made a surprise appearance when he took to the stage in Les Miserables at the city's Theatre Royal.

While audience members at the theatre may not have been aware of the famous actor merging with the cast during the matinée performance of the musical, his fellow performers were only too keen to share their spotlight, reports Chronicle Live.

And when Sir Ian later joined them in a pub sing-along, Les Mis actor Will Richardson shared a video of the impromptu performance with the man he called a "legend".

Posting on Instagram and Twitter, Richardson, who plays Enjolras in the touring production of the hit musical, told how the star of stage and screen had shared his dressing room ahead of Saturday's matinee.

He said he then had the chance to lead his "very special guest" on the barricade, adding: "Someone pinch me. An afternoon I’ll never ever forget!"

Mr Pollard, who plays Factory Foreman/Lesgles, also shared the video saying: "When you’re at the Pub with Sir Ian Mckellen and he wants to sing One Day More!! Honestly! A night I will NEVER forget!"
