The Lilywhites are playing the Bantams for only the second time in the competition, two thunderbolt long-distance strikes from Paul Coutts and Keith Treacy proving the difference between the two sides back in 2010 – although extra-time was needed to settle the tie.

The teams haven’t met since Easter Monday 2015, when two players heavily involved in Saturday’s win over the Latics were on the scoresheet, Paul Gallagher and Daniel Johnson, whose goals were added to by a third from Chris Humphrey, as North End ran out 3-0 winners on their run that took them to promotion at Wembley that May.

There have been plenty of changes for both teams since that day – although Gally and DJ continue to be major players for PNE – with the sides now two divisions apart after City’s relegation to League Two last season.

However, they have recruited well in the summer, with a lot of experienced players, who should help make them a force in the division this season and no doubt they will be looking to impress against the Lilywhites, especially with their positive cup experiences of the last decade, particularly in this competition.
