Rochester Art Center Board of Directors has appointed Brian Austin as the center’s executive director.
Austin, appointed as interim director in January, had also served as a RAC board member since 2015. He oversaw the recent run of "Genome: Unlocking Life’s Code" at the center. More than 9,000 people attended the exhibit.
In an an announcement Monday, Tracy Austin, RAC board president (no relation), said Brian Austin has shown leadership in what she described as a "critical moment" in the center’s history. He was appointed with a unanimous vote by the board, according to the statement.
"He has a commitment to RAC’s core values and mission alongside a strong ability to communicate with various audiences and constituencies," she wrote in a statement.
Austin received his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Furman University and a master’s and doctorate in media and cultural studies from the University of Texas, Austin. He has worked in public engagement roles and corporate and independent consultancy roles for firms including Best Buy, AARP, UnitedHealthcare, Target and National Public Radio.
