Rodney Hanson -- Rochester

Rodney Dean Hanson, age 61, of Rochester, died unexpectedly Thursday, March 14, 2019.

Rodney was born Sept. 20, 1957, in Rochester, the son of Roy and Clara Hanson. He was united in marriage to Brenda Ingalls Hanson Aug. 24, 1985, at Resurrection Catholic Church. Rodney worked as a foreman and groundskeeper for 40-plus years for Olmsted County Parks Department, retiring in 2018.

Rod loved motorcycles, and was a longtime member of the Minnesota Street Rod Association. He enjoyed camping, and yearly vacations to Sturgis, S.D. Rod was a devoted dad, and his two boys were the love of his life. He recently became a first-time grandfather to his grandson, Matthew Tyler, who he adored.

Rodney is preceded in death by his parents; son, Matthew; brothers, Harold "Tubby" Hanson and Wayne Hanson.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda; son, Patrick (Tanya Sutherland) of Eyota; grandson, Matthew; siblings, Lorna Schunke and Richard "Dick" Hanson, both of Rochester.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester, with the Rev. Thomas Loomis officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at River Park Chapel and will continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.
