Wisconsin's coronavirus cases increase by 375, the second-highest total since testing began

USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin

Confirmed cases of coronavirus in Wisconsin jumped by 375 on Friday, the second-highest increase since the state began testing.

Overall confirmed cases totaled 9,590, while deaths due to COVID-19 increased by 10 to 384.

More than 4,600 new test results were reported Friday, down from the state's high of more than 5,500 on Thursday but still the second-most during the pandemic.

Wisconsin's single-day high for confirmed cases came May 1, when more than 460 new positives were announced by state health officials.

Also Friday, state health officials released data for the final two of six goals Gov. Tony Evers' administration set to begin reopening the state in phases.

Both, relating to hospitals, were listed as "green lights," meaning they are currently meeting state standards:

  1. More than 95% of hospitals say they can treat patients without being in a "crisis care" condition, defined as three or more straight days with treatment occurring in unsafe or non-patient care areas, insufficient staff to meet the volume of patients, and a lack of critical supplies or other "extreme operating conditions."
  2. More than 95% also say they have arranged to test all staff who show symptoms of COVID-19.
