Olivet University students join in town's 'Help Dover Shine' event

Staff reports

Town of Dover roadsides are looking a lot cleaner these days thanks to community members and students from Olivet University.

The Town of Dover’s annual spring cleanup, "Come Out and Help Dover Shine," was held April 6 and April 13 with the participation of community members, several local groups that included Dover Greens and Olivet University, and elected officials, according to a written release.

Olivet University students and members of Dover Greens are shown taking part in the Town of Dover cleanup day April 6.

‘With the help of Council woman Jane Meunier, Councilman Rich Yeno and all the residents of Dover we were able to fill over 150 bags with trash” Town Supervisor, Linda French, said about the first event.

More than 30 Olivet University and Dover Greens students and staff took part in the litter cleanup effort, which extended for miles along routes 22 and 55, and included local stores and businesses as well as areas around the Dover Library and post office. The April 13 cleanup focused on the area around Cricket Hill and Old Route 22.

‘It is unfortunate this type of event needs to exist, but at the same time we are thankful for the high participation from our staff and university students, and grateful to show our appreciation to the local community, said Philip Bae, of Dover Greens.

In addition to the cleanup, there was also a logo design competition by the local sports team, the Dover Dragons.
