Shooters from around the state descended on Powell last month to compete in the Big Horn Muzzleloader Bench Shoot.

The event, held Saturday, Aug. 24, and Sunday, Aug. 25, at the Heart Mountain Shooting Range, featured 14 shooters from Powell, Lovell, Casper, Laramie, Saratoga, Sheridan and Worland. Only muzzleloaders shooting patched round balls and open iron sights were allowed.

Saturday was the aggregate match (scores from five rifle targets and one pistol target were combined for an overall aggregate score).

There were five rifle targets at different yardages: 50, 75, 100, 150 and 200 yards. The pistol targets were 50 yards.

The top three shooters at each target won medals. The top three rifle aggregate and pistol aggregate shooters also received medals.

Sunday was the re-entry match. The same targets/distances were shot, but the winners received 100 percent payback plus medals.

Event organizers thanked Ned and Jeannie Dunn, Rich and Marge Wormington and Ethen Kolacny for making the shoot run smoothly.
