Supermarket chain Aldi has revealed plans to build a new store in Aberdeen.

The shop would serve communities in and around Hazlehead, and be based off Countesswells Road.

Plans for the development are at an early stage, with virtual public consultations due to take place next week before a formal planning application is lodged with the city council next month.

If it is granted permission, the store will create up to 35 new jobs.

Philip Johnston, Aldi’s property director for Scotland, said: “This marks an exciting time for Aldi as we bring forward plans for our third store in the city.

“Aberdeen remains a key area of growth for Aldi and I am delighted to be able to present our plans to the local community and bring our award-winning offer to Hazlehead and the surrounding area.

“We believe the proposals will improve and complement the range and quality of shopping provision locally.”

As the chain cannot hold any in-person consultations due to coronavirus, it is opening an online portal for people to provide feedback.

It will be available at aldiconsultation.co.uk from Wednesday.

Additionally, an interactive video-call session with the project team will be held from 4-7pm on Friday.

If approved, it is hoped the shop will open in March 2022.
