A £390,000 project to carry out road improvements for two sections of the A90 near Stonehaven is due to get underway next week.
The project will involve teams carrying out drainage and resurfacing improvements on a section of the southbound A90 near Stonehaven, as well as constructing a new central crossover section in the central reservation before Cowie Bridge. Teams will then carry out further barrier works at Stonehaven and also carry out drainage improvements at the southbound slip roads at Spurryhillock. The project will help create a smoother, safer and more durable carriageway for road users.
The scheme is outlined as follows
A90 Stonehaven drainage improvements – Monday 22 April to Tuesday 30 April (eight days)
The project will begin on Monday 22 April and will involve drainage improvements to the route for eight days. For safety, there will be a single lane closure on the southbound carriageway in place for 24-hours a day with a 50mph speed limit to protect roadworkers and motorist during the improvements. The northbound A90 will be unaffected during the drainage improvements.
A90 Stonehaven central crossover before Cowie Bridge – Tuesday 30 April to Thursday 9 May (ten days)
The second phase will begin on Tuesday 30 April with the construction of a new central crossover and will take place over ten days. To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, single lane closures on both the northbound and southbound carriageway will be in place continuously with a reduced speed limit of 50mph. On Thursday 9 May there will be barrier works to setup the contraflow traffic management for the resurfacing works.
A90 Stonehaven resurfacing – Friday 10 May to Monday 13 May (three days)
The third phase will get underway on Friday 10 May for three days and will see teams resurface a section of the southbound carriageway. To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, a contraflow system will be in place, with single lane traffic in each direction travelling on the northbound carriageway.
A90 Stonehaven Barrier Installation and Spurryhillock southbound slip road drainage works – Monday 13 May to Friday 17 May
The final phase of works will get underway on Monday 13 May and will see teams re-installing the barrier across the new crossover as well as carrying out overnight kerbing and drainage works on the southbound slip roads at Spurryhillock.
During the re-instalment of the barrier, a single lane closure will be place on the northbound carriageway throughout the daytime with a reduced speed limit of 50mph to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists for the first three days.
During overnight drainage improvements at Spurryhillock, a single lane closure on the southbound carriageway with a reduced speed limit of 50mph will be in operation from 7.30pm to 6.30am for five nights. For safety, slip road closures will be in place during working hours with signed diversion routes guiding motorists to their destination.
All traffic management is expected to be removed by 6.30am Saturday 18 May.
