An Inverness park will be transformed into a spectacular “Winter Wonderland” on one of the darkest weekends of the year.

Bumper crowds are expected at the event being staged this weekend at Whin Park.

It is traditionally one of the highlights of the year for young families from all around Inverness.

It will once again be attended by Santa and his reindeer, the Ice King and Queen and a host of mascot friends.

Inverness-based company Limelight Event Services has been given the task of installing a brand new constantly-changing light show which will and bring the park’s boating lake and surrounding trees to life.

As well as having the opportunity to enjoy the wide range of playground rides that the park has to offer on the night, youngsters will also get the chance to be photographed with Santa and his special guests who will be appearing in the park at various times each evening.

Councillor Isabelle Mackenzie, a member of the Inverness Winter Festival working group, said: “This event probably generates more wonderful family photographs that any other of the events in our Winter Festivals programme and it is always a pleasure to see the excitement on the faces of the little ones as they discover all the surprises that we have in store for them.

“The event been especially designed for the smaller members of our community and we are delighted that it seems to be growing in popularity with every passing year.

“We would ask everybody to wrap up as warmly as possible, make sure that they pack their cameras, and spread the word that we want everybody to come and be part of what is sure to be a wonderful experience for children of all ages.”

The final Winter Festival event will be The Red Hot Highland Fling hosted by Craig Hill on December 31 featuring Calum Mackenzie Jones and the Trad Project, Blazin Fiddles and Tide Lines.
