Channel 4 is to return to Chester Zoo for a Christmas special of The Secret Life of the Zoo.
The Secret Life of the Zoo at Christmas will witness the birth of Kyra, the UK’s first ever sun bear cub, but things take a dramatic turn when the rare bear gets stuck up a tree.
Other storylines will include a “Yuletide ceasefire” between otters and babirusa, and there’s crushing news about golden-headed tamarind Pru, who faces one last Christmas with sisters Piper and Paige.
The festive special will again be produced by Blast Films, using micro-rig technology to capture the relationship between the animals and their keepers.
The documentary is currently enjoying its sixth series on the channel, and earlier this year was nominated for a BAFTA in the Television Features category.
Other seasonal factual specials lined up by the broadcaster include The Secret Life of 5 Year-Olds on Holiday, Gogglesprogs Christmas Special, First Dates Christmas Special and the World’s Most Extraordinary Christmas Dinners.
