Holiday display features 300,000 lights illuminating more than 10 acres; international creche museum with hundreds of creches from around the world. Christmas at the Newport Mansions: The Elms, 367 Bellevue Ave.; The Breakers, 44 Ochre Point Ave.; and Marble House, 596 Bellevue Ave. The historical mansions will be filled with thousands of poinsettias, fresh flowers, evergreens and wreaths, as well as 28 professionally decorated Christmas trees. Gingerbread Mansion replicas will also be on display. Santa will visit from noon to 3 p.m., Dec. 1 at The Breakers, Dec. 8 at Marble House and Dec. 15 at The Elms. Tickets are also available for Holiday Evenings, featuring live holiday music and light refreshments from 6 to 8 p.m., Nov. 30, Dec. 7, 14 and 28. Each room in the mansion is filled with holiday decorations and the gardens are aglow with lights. Sun-Thu, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; Fri-Sat 11 a.m.-8 p.m. $15, $14 seniors, $11 students and military, $6 ages 6-17, $32 family (2 adults, 2 youths). Through Jan. 1; closed Nov. 28, Dec. 24-25.

Holiday Craft Fair and Quilt Show: First Christian Congregational Church, 1113 GAR Highway, Swansea. Knitted and sewn items, pet accessories, jewelry, Christmas and table decor, quilted items, dolls and toys, woodworking, food. 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Holiday fair: St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 15 E. Beach Rd., Charlestown. 322-0088. Handmade gifts, fresh green arrangements, baked goods, Swedish coffee bread, Christmas table and white elephant room. Children will be able to purchase gifts in the new Santa’s Workshop, where Santa’s elves will help them make selections. 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

Holiday Lantern Tours: Newport Historical Society Museum & Shop, 127 Thames St., Newport. Holiday Lantern Tours are scheduled for Fridays and Saturdays at 4 p.m. Nov. 22 through Dec. 28. Advance registration is strongly encouraged as space is limited. Polar Express Train Ride: Blackstone Valley Train Depot, 1 Depot Square, Woonsocket. (401) 495-1213, blackstonevalleypolarexpress.com. Inspired by Chris Van Allsburg's classic book, the train ride features storytelling, sing-alongs, cookies, hot chocolate, a souvenir mug and a gift from Santa. Santa Claus’ Arrival: Dixon Square, downtown Westerly. The Winter Lady and other holiday characters will be escorting Santa Claus into town via fire trucks. Santa’s helpers will hand out lollipops, coloring books and crayons. Fri, 6 p.m.

Sparkle! An Outdoor Family Event: Blithewold Mansion, Gardens & Arboretum, 101 Ferry Rd., Bristol. (401) 253-2707, blithewold.org. Stroll through Blithewold's illuminated gardens and greenhouse, listen to carolers and enjoy hot cocoa and s'mores around a roaring bonfire. Fri, Nov. 29, Dec. 6, 13 and 20, 5-8 p.m., with sessions at 5, 6 and 7 p.m. Reservations required. $16, $5 ages 10-17; $3 ages 3-9. Cocoa is free; s'mores kits are $2, or 3 for $5.
