PROVIDENCE -- After a dry day Tuesday, a coastal storm will bring heavy rain and possibly some snow to Southern New England overnight into early Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm will pass close enough to the region to bring heavy rain to Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island and possibly some wet snow to the hills of Connecticut, Rhode Island and the Worcester area in Massachusetts, the weather service says.

For Providence on Tuesday, clouds will increase and the high should reach about 48 degrees. Rain is likely after 11 p.m. and should continue until about 10 a.m. Wednesday. After that, the sky will clear and the high temperature should reach 56 degrees with breezy conditions.

Thursday looks sunny with a high near 51.
