PAWTUCKET — The Pawtucket police have found no criminal wrongdoing after a 4-year-old girl was found unresponsive Friday in a hotel pool.

"Pawtucket Police Detectives have investigated the incident and determined that no criminal wrongdoing took place and that the incident was accidental," the police said in a news release Monday.

The child, who has not been identified, remains in critical care at Hasbro Children's Hospital, the police said.

At about 8:30 p.m. Friday, Pawtucket police and rescue personnel were called to the Hampton Inn, 2 George St., for a possible drowning, Detective Sgt. Christopher E. LeFort said in the news release.

The child had been swimming with family, the police said. She was later found unresponsive at the bottom of the pool, according to the police.

Family members and Pawtucket emergency medical workers performed life-saving measures, the police said, and the girl was taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital. She was placed on a ventilator and listed in critical care, the police said.
