Police badge, gun stolen from Providence officer's car

PROVIDENCE -- Providence police are investigating after a city police officer reported his badge and his off-duty gun were stolen from his car.

Police responded to Jastram Street just after midnight Thursday for the report of a larceny from a car. Officer James Lewis told police someone had entered the car between 9:45 p.m. Wednesday and 12:24 a.m. Thursday morning.

His Smith & Wesson M&P .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun with 11 rounds, as well as a Providence police badge, a camouflage wallet with credit, debit and Social Security cards, were all taken, Providence police said in a report.
