Fiery crash shuts down Route 95 in Providence

PROVIDENCE — A person was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for minor injuries following a fiery crash Monday afternoon on Route 95 north.

Rhode Island State Police said the two-car crash took place near Exit 22 in downtown Providence at 3:53 p.m.

The crash caused a shutdown of the highway for a portion of the afternoon. Traffic was moving in one lane by 4:40 p.m.

A burned-out truck could be seen loaded on a flatbed. Behind it was a black car with heavy front-end damage and deployed airbags.

The scene was cleared by 5:30.

Police said the incident is still under investigation.
