Brown University investigating homophobic graffiti in dorm

PROVIDENCE -- The Brown University Department of Public Safety is investigating homophobic graffiti written inside one of the school's dormitories, according to a report in the Brown Daily Herald.

Homophobic graffiti has been documented at Hegeman Hall dormitory by the Public Safety department, Vice President for Campus Life Eric Estes and Associate Vice President for Campus Life Koren Bakkegard wrote in an email to the dormitory's residents, the Daily Herald reported.

The graffitti was first seen in late November, according to the report, and more than 15 incidents have been documented.

The report says Bakkegard encouraged anyone with information about the graffiti to contact the Public Safety department at (401) 863-3322, or anonymously through the department's Silent Witness Reporting system. It also notes that support is available through the university's LGBTQ Center, Counseling and Psychological Services or Student Support Services.
