A grand jury has handed up an indictment that accuses a 22-year-old Providence woman of involuntary manslaughter in the death of an infant in March 2019, according to the office of Attorney General Peter F. Neronha.

In April, Providence police charged the woman, Ginalys Velasquez Camara, with first-degree murder, saying she had not met her responsibility to either provide care for the child or obtain care.

The woman delivered the newborn on March 23 without medical assistance, according to police. On March 30, police announced that the newborn had been found in an apartment on Ring Street where the mother lived with her brother and an uncle.

Camara’s arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 12 in Superior Court, Providence.
