PROVIDENCE -- The work week will end on a mild, dry note, but a storm is expected to bring heavy rain to the region Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Expect partly sunny skies with a high near 45 degrees today in Providence, the Weather Service says.

"Low pressure approaching from the mid Atlc region will bring a period of heavy rain and gusty coastal winds late Saturday and Saturday night as it tracks across interior southern New

England, and may be preceded by some light freezing drizzle over the Berkshires," the Weather Service says.

The high Saturday should reach 44 degrees and the rain is expected mainly after 5 p.m., the Weather Service says. The rain should continue into the night, with 1 to 2 inches of rainfall possible, the Weather Service says.

Sunday looks partly sunny with a high near 46.
