A North Providence police detective has been charged with domestic simple assault and domestic disorderly conduct, authorities said Friday.

The detective, Luis Rivera, 39, of North Providence, was arrested on Monday after a woman filed a complaint at the state police barracks in Lincoln, according to state police Lt. Col. Kevin Barre.

Rivera is accused of carrying out the assault in his home at 32 Andover St. on Monday, Barre said. The woman did not require medical attention, he said.

Rivera was released on personal recognizance and his arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 28 before Judge Joseph P. Ippolito Jr. in District Court, Warwick.

Rivera has not been suspended, but he is not working either, said North Providence’s police chief, Col. Arthur Martins. The detective is making use of personal time that’s owed to him, he said.

He said he could make no further comment on the matter.
