PROVIDENCE — The building housing parts of the AS220 arts collaborative suffered broken windows early Tuesday, and crews were at work shortly after 6 a.m. to repair the damage.

Susan Clausen, the organization’s property manager for the building, measured the open space where a shattered window had been removed at the entrance to an art gallery near the corner of Mathewson and Washington Streets. She was preparing to install a sheet of plywood.

“It’s been a remarkable amount of people helping out downtown,” said Bert Crenca, AS220’s founder, now retired from the organization, who himself was lending a hand. “There’s some really intense things going on with people trying to help, pitching in.”
