Penn State will open its field hockey season Friday at Duke with a roster that features three players who list Wyoming as their hometown.

Wyoming Area graduate Bree Bednarski is a junior forward for the Nittany Lions.

Aubrey Mytych graduated from Wyoming Seminary after beginning junior high field hockey at Wyoming Area and switching schools before eighth grade.

Both Mytych and Emily Farrell, a Dallas graduate, are freshmen listed as midfielder/forwards on the Penn State roster.

Bednarski set a state record with 67 goals as a senior at Wyoming Area, then started her college career at the University of Michigan.

After playing 20 games, including two starts, as a Michigan freshman, Bednarski transferred to Penn State. She had a goal and an assist at Michigan.

Bednarski had to sit out one season as a transfer, then returned to action last fall. She earned Academic All-Big Ten honors after playing in 10 goals and scoring a goal. Her appearances included the team’s National Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament game, a 6-1 loss to Harvard.

Penn State went 12-6 a year ago, including 6-2 in the Big Ten.
