A new company is about to launch from a purpose built headquarters at Staverton following a multi-million pound investment.

Skyborne was co-founded by chairman Tom Misner, CEO Lee Woodward and COO Ian Cooper to 'provide a truly world-class and unique flight training experience'.

Mr Woodward and Mr Cooper are former airline pilots and have held senior roles at other leading airline training academies.

Mr Misner is described as "a successful entrepreneur who revolutionised the education space for audio, film, and graphics media content creators in over 27 countries".

"Skyborne's vision is to become the most respected and trusted airline training academy, developing industry-ready professionals, all from the county of Gloucestershire," said a statement from the new company, which has invested a "multi-million-pound" sum in its new Staverton headquarters.

Mr Woodward said: "We chose Gloucestershire Airport as our home base due to its reputation as one of the top General Aviation airports in the UK and its outstanding links to several British cities, including Bath, Birmingham, Bristol, Cheltenham and Gloucester.

"From the Skyborne flight operations centre, our cadet pilots will have direct access to a dedicated ramp with a short taxi to the runway. It is a fantastic location from which to become completely immersed in the world of commercial airline pilot training."

The purpose-built 13,000 square foot training centre is equipped with the very latest aircraft and ground school equipment. It is also home to the industry's first fixed-base Boeing 737 MAX FTD simulator which is now fully operational.

The firm currently employs 12 staff, but expects that number to grow.

Other significant investment includes an Alsim AL-42 simulator, and two Diamond DA-42 aircraft.

The training facility has five large classrooms, lounge facilities and open-plan work zones so cadets can work to the best of their abilities in absolute comfort.

Skyborne said it will create and provide jobs for flight instructors, administrators, technicians and many more.

Skyborne is also currently developing on-site accommodation for its students, encouraging them to spend increased time in Gloucestershire and explore the local area during their downtime.

Skyborne has designed its programmes for all applicants, regardless of prior expertise.
