We'll be playing on a rain affected track at Canterbury and I've found three which will handle the conditions and look over the odds in their respective races.

BATTLEGROUND (Race 3 No 3)

Thought Battleground would open much shorter than $8 so at the early quote I'm keen to jump in. He was made to do plenty of work last start, being posted three wide the trip and it showed late when fading to finish fourth behind Starla. Has another wide draw here but there doesn't look to be much speed drawn inside Battleground and the engagement of Tim Clark is a plus. Stepping down to a distance I think he's more effective over and back on a rain affected track, Battleground should lead them up and be tough to run down. BET: WIN

MAUI GIRL (Race 4 No 2)

Really liked the way this mare returned after not racing for 77 weeks. First-up, she was posted three wide without cover around the sharp Wyong bend but was still able to hold on to win before winning with something in hand at Kembla. Drawn a wide gate here but Maui Girl has plenty of early speed to overcome it and she should be nearing peak fitness third-up. Maui Girl was narrowly beaten in black type grade as a three-year-old and I reckon she is one to follow during the winter. Take the early $4 – she will start closer to even money. BET: WIN

SNEAK PREVIEW (Race 7 No 9)

Kody Nestor is making the trip to Canterbury with a few chances and reckon Sneak Preview is his best. Ran on well for third last time out in the Scone Country Cup behind Luna Mia and I expect he'll only improve stepping up to the 1550m. His only other run over the distance was in a Highway on The Gong day at Kembla when the gelding won comfortably – Tim Clark was on board that day and sticks for this. From barrier six, Clark can have Sneak Preview in a midfield position and with some expected speed up front, Sneak Preview can utilise his turn of foot and be hard to hold out. BET: WIN
