Surrey bidding to Thunder home for Tuite in France
The exciting Surrey Thunder takes a step up in grade in the Listed Prix Francois Mathet at Saint-Cloud on Tuesday where he will bid to continue to progress from last season.
The three-year-old, who is owned by the Surrey Racing syndicate, made a pleasing start to his career when third in a Sandown novice contest over a mile and built on that with a victory at Windsor, ahead of subsequent winner Good Birthday, in October.
Trainer Joseph Tuite said of the son of Le Havre: "I'm very happy with the horse and his last bit of work was very pleasing. He's a pretty nice horse and we're hopeful of a bold show."
Tuite originally intended for Surrey Thunder to run in a conditions race in France but was prevented from doing so as the colt had not run there as a two-year-old.
The Berkshire trainer added: "The softer ground will suit him and he travelled over well. Unfortunately we can't run in conditions over here because he didn't run as a juvenile in France.
"We said we'd take the bull by the horns – we think he's good enough for the grade. His form worked out well in England and fortune favours the brave."
Lee bids for charity race victory
Trainer Kerry Lee will be hoping her first experience in the racing saddle will be a winning one as she bids to raise money for St Michael's Hospice in Hereford's charity race.
The Grade 1-winning trainer, who will ride stable stalwart Top Gamble in the race, has raised close to £7,000 for the Herefordshire-based charity which supports people suffering from life-limiting illnesses.
Lee said: "I've never ridden in a race of any sort and I wanted to push myself. I have always had huge respect for professional jockeys and it's something I think I can do – it's a personal challenge."
The race, held over a mile and a half, has attracted 12 competitors including four runners from Lee's yard and you can donate to Lee's cause here.
Station out to master field
The Kim Bailey-trained Station Master returned to winning ways last time out at Huntingdon and bids to make it a double in the novice chase at Hereford (3.00).
Station Master, who defeated subsequent Carlisle winner Piton Pete on his last run, will have to defy top weight in this 3m1f contest but has the assistance of David Bass in the saddle.
The eight-year-old's trainer is also in fine form having saddled five winners from his last 18 runners and his main rival appears to be the Philip Hobbs-trained Steely Addition who was last seen finishing fourth behind Now McGinty at Chepstow in January.
