PITTSBURGH (93.7 The FAN) - With the Penguins season ending so abruptly, we're already now wondering what's going to happen this offseason to make sure something like this doesn't happen again.

NHL on NBC Sports insider Pierre McGuire joined The PM Team for his weekly interview and shared some big numbers on what Matt Murray could cost the Pens this offseason.

"They're going to have to give him a qualifying offer number one," Pierre told us. "And number two, if they go to arbitration, he's got an unbelievable case in arbitration.  You could be looking at an $8 or 9 million per year goalie."

Add in the fact that there's another expansion draft coming up next year, Pierre said there's a lot of moving parts and "it's more complicated than the average fan would think."

With the season over and the draft Monday night, Pierre also gave his unique insight into what sort of player consensus number one overall pick Alex Lafreniere is and the impact he'd have on the Pens if they won the draft lottery.

"We're talking 35 to 45 goals in his rookie year, I'm not kidding you."
