Vote for Record Searchlight Athlete of the Week (Oct. 29 - Nov. 2)
The Record Searchlight has brought back Athlete of the Week. The newspaper chooses the nominees based on the prior week's performances.
Five student-athletes are competing for the distinction, including three football players and two volleyball players.
Be sure to read up about this week's nominees before voting online at Redding.com/sports before the ballot closes Saturday at 12:01 a.m. You can vote once per day.
Male Athlete of the Week nominees
Joshua Aguilar (West Valley)
Last week, Aguilar propelled the Eagles to their first undefeated regular season in program history. Aguilar had both of his team's touchdowns including the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter against Lassen. He finished the game with 10 carries and 131 rushing yards.
Cole Abel (U-Prep)
Abel had his best individual performance of the season racking up 206 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 26 carries for U-Prep against Trinity. Abel leads the Panthers with 14 touchdowns.

James Weaver (Shasta)
Last week, Weaver exploded for 158 rushing yards on 12 carries and three touchdowns against Foothill. Weaver's touchdowns all came before the third quarter against the Cougars who have one of Shasta County's best defensive lines.
Female Athlete of the Week nominees
Kennedy Kremer (U-Prep)
Kremer had the volleyball double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs in the CIF Northern Section Division IV quarterfinals match on Oct. 31 against Yreka.

Courtney Oilar (Shasta)
Despite playing with a broken hand the last five weeks, Oilar has managed to fight through the pain by putting down 17 kills in the CIF Northern Section Division III semifinal match against Las Plumas on Oct. 29.
Ethan Hanson started working for the Redding Record Searchlight after four years with the Los Angeles Daily News as a freelancer.
