West Valley's Aguilar and Shasta's Oilar earn Record Searchlight Athlete of the Week

The West Valley Eagles prevailed over the Anderson Cubs 60-29 on Friday, Oct. 11, 2019.

A West Valley High School football player and Shasta High volleyball player took home Record Searchlight Athlete of the Week honors this week.

Male Athlete of the Week winner: Joshua Aguilar (West Valley)

Junior Josh Aguilar won 51.1% of the vote to be this week's Athlete of the Week. Aguilar helped his team make history by scoring two touchdowns, including the game-winning score against Lassen to propel the Eagles to their first undefeated regular season in program history.

Aguilar finished the game with 10 carries and 131 yards. This week he will lead top-seed West Valley against No. 8 Wheatland at home on Friday in the CIF Northern Section Division III first round playoffs.

Female Athlete of the Week winner: Courtney Oilar (Shasta)

Despite breaking her right hand, Shasta senior outside hitter Courtney Oilar had 17 kills against Las Plumas in the CIF Northern Section Division III quarterfinals.

Oilar won Athlete of the Week with 58.2 percent of the vote.

On Oct. 29 against Las Plumas, Oilar had a game-high 17 kills and a 65.4 kill percentage to lift Shasta into Saturday's CIF Northern Section Division III final against Foothill.

Oilar has continued to play despite suffering a broken hand on Sept. 28 in the Anderson Volleyball Tournament.
