Male Athlete of the Week nominees

JT Kennedy (Mount Shasta)

Mount Shasta snowboarder JT Kennedy smiles after winning the third snowboard race of the year at Mt. Shasta Ski Park on Monday, Jan. 27, 2020.

Conditions at Mt. Shasta Ski Park were less than ideal for Kennedy and the dozens of Nordic athletes who competed at the Team Shasta High School Ski and Snowboard Race 3 on Monday. The foggy conditions would allow the racers to do one run, but that's all Kennedy needed. Kennedy finished in first place with a time of 49.12 seconds in the snowboarding slalom.

Trevor Jones (U-Prep)

U-Prep senior forward Trevor Jones stands at his school's attendance office on Dec. 3, 2019.

Jones proved again why he's one of the most scorers on U-Prep's roster. Jones scored 16 points on Monday against Oroville and 11 points against Lassen on Friday for the Panthers, which has won five straight games in boys basketball since a 48-point loss to Pleasant Valley on Jan. 11.

Female Athlete of the Week nominees

Emma Nichols (U-Prep)

Nichols scored two goals and added an assist to help U-Prep girls soccer defeat Lassen 7-0 on the road. U-Prep continued it's dominant stretch which has won seven straight matches and Its only wrinkle came when it played Pleasant Valley to a 0-0 tie on Dec. 16.

Tate Harkness (Mount Shasta)

Despite poor visibility and low snowfall, Harkness made the course at Mt. Shasta Ski Park look easy on Monday. Harkness, the senior snowboarder on her only run of the day, accelerated to a time of 43.77 at Team Shasta High School Ski and Snowboard Race 3. It was the fastest mark of the day for any racer, boy or girl.

Ava Jackson (Shasta)
