Standard Solar Inc has inked a deal to buy 27 MW of distributed generation (DG) solar projects in New York and Rhode Island from Freepoint Solar LLC.

Rockville, Maryland-based Standard Solar will acquire a total of three projects in Rhode Island with a combined capacity of 13 MW, plus two community projects totalling 14 MW in New York. It did not say how much it will pay for the assets.

The Rhode Island schemes are all part of the state’s Renewable Energy Growth (REG) programme, which supports the development of 560 MW of new renewables in the period 2015-2020.

Standard Solar noted that it will engineer, build, finance, own and operate all five ground-mount facilities, with construction scheduled to start over the next six to nine months. Together, the plants will produce almost 115 GWh of electricity and generate revenue through taxes and local economic development for the states and local governments.
