Abilene Cooper remains No. 9; May enters high school football state rankings

There wasn't much movement for Big Country teams in the latest high school football state rankings released Monday.

Cooper, which blew by Lubbock High 49-14, kept its position at No. 9 in Class 5A Division I. The Cougars (9-0 overall, 5-0 district) are idle this week before going after their fifth undefeated regular season Nov. 8 at Amarillo High.

No. 4 Ira moved up three spots in 1A D-I despite being idle. May (7-1, 1-0) entered those same rankings at No. 9.

Eastland dropped to No. 9 in 3A D-I following a 28-14 loss to No. 2 Wall.

In 2A D-II, idle Hamlin bumped up a spot to No. 6. District rival Albany maintained No. 2 after clubbing Cross Plains 41-13.

The following Big Country schools kept their position in the top 10: No. 6 Brownwood (4A D-I), No. 7 Cisco (3A D-II), No. 5 Hawley (2A D-I), No. 1 Jayton (1A D-II), No. 4 Blackwell (1A D-II), No. 6 Strawn (1A D-II), No. 7 Gordon (1A D-II), No. 10 Blanket (1A D-II).
