Big Country Player of the Week: Hamlin athlete Jevon Williams puts on a show

It seemed like every time Hamlin's Jevon Williams touched the ball Friday night, he was going to score.

That's because he did nearly half the time.

The senior found the end zone five times and caused three turnovers in the Pied Pipers' district championship rout of Albany to earn Big Country Player of the Week.

Williams, listed as a 5-foot-8, 150-pound receiver, rushed for 188 yards and four touchdowns on nine carries, an average of 20.9 yards per run. In the 66-20 win, the senior defensive back also had two interceptions and a fumble recovery, which he returned 40 yards for another score. He finished with 10 tackles.

Hamlin wide receiver Jevon Williams slips past the arms of the Albany defensive line during Friday's District 7-2A Division II championship game at Hamlin's Piper Stadium.

Even his coach was a bit surprised at the eye-popping performance.

"He's had some big games, but nothing like he had (Friday)," Hamlin coach Russell Lucas said after the game.

The victory ended Albany's string of 11 consecutive district titles and 11-straight wins over Hamlin.
