Five Arizona Cardinals who could surpass expectations for 2019

NFL: Los Angeles Rams at Arizona Cardinals Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

With the Arizona Cardinals heading into a new season, with a new coach and a new quarterback, expectations are all over the place.

Moreover, expectations for players are all over the place.

That’s why the question I have is what player is most likely to exceed their expectations heading into 2019?

Here are the potential candidates (note players like DJ, Fitz and Murray have such high expectations that they’ll be in another question).

Chase Edmonds: The Cardinals plan to give Edmonds a significant role, does that mean a player who could find a way to crack 1,000 all purpose yards?

Charles Clay: How many targets will a player like Clay get? If he is playing H-Back and tight end in Kingsbury’s offense, he could have a chance at a huge year.

J.R. Sweezy: Many look at Sweezy as a problem, but his personality, toughness and ability to stay on the field could be just the right mix to help get the Arizona Cardinals offensive line on the right track.

Robert Alford: He’s the default cornerback one heading into the season, but I think the first six weeks could actually play up his season work. Teams will likely attack Tramaine Brock or Byron Murphy more early, which means Alford could have a nice start to the season.

Zane Gonzalez: Zane looks like the kicker for the Cardinals and if the team is moving the ball, but maybe struggling to find the end zone, Zane may be the beneficiary early in the 2019 season.
