Nevada joins suit against Trump's emergency wall declaration

Staff and wire report

Nevada is one of more than a dozen states joining a lawsuit against President Donald Trump's emergency declaration to fund a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.

“President Trump cannot sidestep our Constitution for a political ploy,” said Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford said in a news release. “The Trump Administration’s proposed diversion of funds would waste billions of dollars that is dedicated to supporting our military and law enforcement agencies. I am proud to join this lawsuit to defend our Constitution, our state’s military bases, and Nevada’s law enforcement agencies.”

Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford announced that Nevada is joining a lawsuit against President Donald Trumps emergency declaration to fund a border wall.

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra filed the lawsuit on Monday, Joining Ford and Becerra in filing the lawsuit are the attorneys general of Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon and Virginia, Ford's release said.

Becerra says there is no emergency at the border and Trump doesn't have the authority to make the declaration.

Trump declared a national emergency to fulfill his promise of completing the wall.

The move allows the president to bypass Congress to use money from the Pentagon and other budgets.

California has repeatedly challenged Trump in court. Becerra has filed at least 45 lawsuits against the administration.
