Tennessee makes the cut for 2020 five-star forward Greg Brown

Rick Barnes is looking to translate his team’s success this season to the recruiting trail, just as he did with five-star guard Josiah James last year. At Tennessee, Barnes has transformed four three-star prospects into guys who will have a chance to play at the NBA level. That development was the main reason why James decided to play his college ball in Knoxville.

Tennessee is in the hunt for a few five-star prospects in the 2020 cycle, one of which being Greg Brown out of Austin, Texas. Barnes knows that area pretty well, spending 17 season in Austin as the head coach of Texas. He’s now looking to pluck an elite player away from the Longhorns.

Brown announced his top ten on Tuesday and Tennessee survived the initial cut. Four schools in his home state — Texas, Baylor, Texas Tech and Texas A&M — made the cut as well. Blue bloods Kansas and North Carolina are in the mix, along with Auburn, Memphis and LSU.

Brown is the No. 5 prospect in the 2020 class, according to 247’s rankings. The 6-9, 195 pound forward is known for his athleticism and his ability to run. Brown averaged 27 points and 12 rebounds per game this year in the high school ranks, shooing 53 percent and 36 percent from three-point range.

Jaden Springer and Walker Kessler are two other five-star prospects to keep an eye on. A little further down the board are small forward Corey Walker, in-state guard Keon Johnson and power forward P.J. Hall.
