Your Friday Hoo Doo Thread: South Carolina

We’re back to SEC play. Offer accordingly.

In week three, we play the South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia. Now, Alabama is supposed to win handily, but they were also favored back in 2010, and I think we all know how that turned out. As a reminder, we do need more submissions to help get us through the season. I think we’ll keep the ground rules up all year:

We know that you miss the Friday Hoo Doo thread, and that we are at least partly to blame for Alabama’s poor injury luck. The problem is, any one person has only so many stories to tell. I do not have the time or creativity to make something up every week just so we can have a thread.

I do, however, have an idea and modest proposal. None of these traditions are really about the writers anyway, they belong to the community at large. Why not feature some of your own infamous moments, in full color?

I have created a new email account, RBRhoodoo@gmail.com, for the express purpose of receiving Hoo Doo photo and video submissions. We will review them and select one each week during the season to feature. As usual, readers will comment below with their own tales.

The only criteria, being that this is a #familyblawg and all, is that all submissions must be PG rated. Please include a quick story behind the visual and permission to post. Videos will be published to Youtube if you send me a file, or you can send a link if it is already on the web somewhere that will allow an embed. Photos can generally be uploaded with no issues. Also, tell me how you wish to be credited, by name or your RBR username.

This week’s submission comes from another RBR fan favorite, Juggerott. His offering is really more about the tale than the photo, but he sent one to support. Let’s get to it:

So the enclosed picture is the day I made Chief Petty Officer in the Navy. This is a big deal to enlisted sailors, and my second proudest moment (non-family related) behind my graduation from Alabama. In this picture is my Dad and my Father in Law, who was also a retired Navy Chief. Things were going well, my wife, kids, and family all drove up for the ceremony, as I was a geo-bachelor at the time, a term used for people stationed at a location without their family. As the ceremony drew to a close, we are called to attention to recite the Chiefs Creed. We stand with stern faces as our brothers and sisters in attendance rise to recite it with us. Loudly and proudly all Chief Petty Officers in attendance recite the creed with near perfect synchronization. Upon completion, and prior to being given the command “parade rest” it’s so quiet you can hear a pin drop. Abruptly that silence is broken by my Mother (God rest her soul) loudly exclaiming, “THAT’S MY BABY”. The room erupts in laughter and for the next year I was only known as Chief Baby.

Thank you for your service, Chief Baby.

May this, along with your confessions in the comment section, be sufficient to get us through South Carolina with a comfortable victory and no major injuries.

Hoo Doo away, for the good of the team, and think about any photos or videos you have to submit to Football Loki in the future.

Roll Tide.
