Anger over stripped out Tain play park equipment as impasse over 'not fit for purpose' schools rumbles on

ANGER is mounting over the sudden removal of children’s play park equipment from an Easter Ross town where children are begging for action to replace schools slammed unfit for purpose.
Health and safety concerns have been cited by Highland Council for removal of play equipment from the park at Glebe Crescent in Tain.
Ironically, the move comes at a time when pupils at Craighill, Knockbreck and Tain Royal Academy are pleading for a new multimillion-pound campus to replace buildings which one local councillor has called “dangerous”.
Their filmed appeal to draw attention to the shortcomings of the existing buildings has reached more than 35,000 people in a matter of days and been brought to the personal attention of the First Minister.
As parents and children this week turned out in force to make clear their feelings on the removal of equipment from the play park, mother-of-two Angela Wilson said the move was a double whammy.
She is angry about the equipment having been removed as it was one of the few in her area after the park behind her home on St Andrew’s Road was removed 13 years ago and never replaced.
Mrs Wilson said: “The government keep going on and on about childhood obesity and then they’re taking away all of the play parks. If they had come to the community first we could have done some fundraising and found the money somehow, but they didn’t consult us at all."
