Alness Parkrun has become an established Saturday morning routine for many people in the area.

BIG -hearted volunteers will be invited to go on the run this weekend when an Alness event celebrates Easter.

Alness parkrun recently celebrated its 75th run and is now a well established and popular weekly event within the town which attracts locals and tourists from all over the UK.

Ross County Athletics Club are planning a volunteer ‘takeover’ of this event on Saturday, April 20.

To safely run parkrun each week, 16 volunteers are needed. Roles include course set up, timers, funnel finishing helpers and marshals.

Ross County AC will take over all the volunteering roles and thank the dedicated core team who commit their time every Saturday, rain or shine, to bring such a positive community event to the area.

It will also give these volunteers a chance to run for a change!

The club are also keen to encourage new runners to parkrun so will be looking for existing members, family and friends to join in too as well as non-members who want to give it a go.

Anyone who has never tried parkrun before or wants to return is invited to join in the fun. Participants can run, jog or walk.

As it is Easter weekend, there will be some treats at the end along with the usual selection of fruit.

Aileen Stuart from Alness parkrun said: “"e are thrilled to get the opportunity to run the course on a parkrun day and we are looking forward to seeing lots of our regular volunteers taking the opportunity to join us, and would like to thank Ross County Athletics for offering to take on all the volunteer roles giving us this chance”.

The weekly parkrun starts in Crawl Park at 9.30am. Full details including the route and where to park can be found at http://www.parkrun.org.uk/alness/.

For those who have never run parkrun before its really easy to register. Go to https://www.parkrun.org.uk/register/ and follow the instructions. Once you have done this print off your barcode and remember to take it along as this will be scanned at the finish.

If you are a keen junior or adult runner and are interested in joining Ross County AC, members of the club will be happy to chat to you about this on the day or you can visit our website at http://www.rosscountyac.com/ for more details. The club caters for a wide variety of abilities and athletes can take part in track and field events, cross country, hill and road races.
