A ROSS-SHIRE couple set for a gruelling mountain trek for charity took to the red carpet at Strathpeffer Pavilion to raise a remarkable £10,000 for Marie Curie.

Tina and Graeme Swanson will head to the Drakensberg mountains in South Africa for the trek. Christina, who runs the tearoom at Dingwall Railway Station, has raised tens of thousands for the charity down the years.

Marie Curie representatives Christina Gillies and Jillian Walker told guests at the movie-themed event the charity is for people with every terminal illness, not just cancer. A third of the charity’s income comes from overseas treks.

Tina said: “On the strength of our evening three people who attended have told us they plan to sign up for a future Marie Curie trek which is just fantastic.”

She paid tribute to everyone at the Pavilion who contributed to its success including the Red Poppy team and performers Rooty Ma Toot and Ruaridh Jack. Her fundraising page is at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/christinaswanson
