A MAN died after falling while walking on a famous Wester Ross mountain ridge yesterday.

The hillwalker slipped and suffered a fatal fall whilst traversing the An Teallach ridge near Dundonnell on Sunday afternoon.

Fourteen members of Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team mustered at their team base in Dundonnell after the incident came to light.

A rescue helicopter from Inverness managed to locate the body and take it back to the mountain rescue team base.

Two other walkers, who were in the vicinity, but not connected with the casualty, were also airlifted off the hill and supported back at the base.

Dundonnell team leader Donald Macrae said: "Our thoughts at this difficult time are very much with the family and friends of the deceased.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank other hill walkers who supported us along with the amazing efforts of our colleagues from the Coastguard helicopter based in Inverness. Sadly, this is the second fatality we have been involved with on this mountain this year."
