PEOPLE of all ages and abilities hotfooted it to Alness on Sunday for a hugely successful festival of running which now looks set to become an annual event.

Stemming from the town’s success in the last year’s Great British High Street awards, the Alness Festival of Running saw 225 people complete a timed 5k in addition to events for toddlers and Highland dancing and kickboxing demonstrations.

Local runner Gordon Lennox was first over the line in 16m 20s and young Lucas Cairns snapping at his heels.

Aileen Stuart, one of the organisers, said it has been an “amazing” day which brought people to the town, promoted a healthy lifestyle and brought a boost to business. It looks set to become an annual event.

As well as aiming to be as plastic free as possible, organisers said the plan was to donate 10 per cent of all profits to local charities.
