Onus on United to keep Championship title race alive after County win

Veteran midfielder Don Cowie believes the pressure is all on Dundee United to keep the title race alive now.

Ross County moved eight points clear at the top of the league with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Dunfermline on Tuesday night.

That means that there is a chance the title race could be done and dusted this weekend if results go in County’s favour.

United play Ayr United at Somerset Park tomorrow night, needing a win to guarantee the battle at the top goes on for at least another week.

If they fail to get three points, that opens up the door for the Staggies, who play Partick Thistle on Saturday.

So Cowie says it is over to United now as the bid to be crowned champions appears to be reaching its conclusion.

“We knew that if we won on Tuesday it puts it back in Dundee United’s court,” Cowie explained.

“We know that they play on Friday, they’ve got a difficult game against a team they have struggled against this year."
