A COUPLE from Widnes have got married in England's first post-lockdown wedding.

Louise Arnold and Jennifer Wilson tied the knot just after midnight on Saturday following the easing of lockdown restrictions.

The couple, who met in New Zealand, said their vows in Runcorn Town Hall, with Halton Borough Council's Registrars officiating, and watched by family and friends.

Jennifer's parents were unable to attend, but they watched the ceremony online from their home in Australia.

Runcorn and Widnes World:

"We were delighted to help Louise and Jennifer say 'I do’ on what we think was the first wedding after the lockdown period, and to help make sure that their special day is one they will remember forever," said registration service manager, Andrew Lucas.

Halton Registration Service has been liaising closely with couples whose ceremonies have been cancelled during the Covid-19 lockdown.

There are dates and times still available, but people have already been ringing for new bookings following the lifting of restrictions.
