Salem State didn't have to look far to find its new tennis coach.

Fresh off a successful career for the Vikings, 2019 graduate Madeline Allaire has been named the team's new head women's coach.

She takes over for her own coach, Dan McCormick, who led Salem State for the last two seasons.

"I am incredibly excited to be joining the coaching staff at Salem State University. I see a lot of potential with the tenacity and grit of the student-athletes, and I am looking forward to fostering an environment to help the athletes and program grow to even greater heights," said Allaire, a native of Columbus, Ohio, who was All-Little East in both singles and doubles in her career.

"A standout tennis player and leader as a student-athlete, we are happy to have Madeline join the Viking family as a coach. She is a respected tennis instructor and has a strong background in strength and conditioning. We look forward to her being an asset to the University and athletics department," said interim athletic director Nicolle Wood.

As a player, Allaire's 12 singles wins in 2018 are the fourth most in a season in Salem State history. She was 25-16 in her career and off the court served as the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Co-President. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in the spring of 2019 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training.
