Two more measles cases confirmed from Marion County exposure

Measles in Marion County led to the diagnoses of two more cases in Multnomah and Clackamas counties, health officials announced Friday afternoon.

Oregon Health Authority said both cases stem from an outbreak that was first reported 10 days ago when an Illinois traveler contagious with measles visited Salem in late February.

The Clackamas County resident reportedly visited a Salem missionary training school, Youth With a Mission, at the same time as the Illinois resident, health officials said.

“The spread of this disease in Oregon is a sobering reminder of how this virus can travel,” said Ann Thomas, of the Oregon Health Authority. “So, if you haven’t already, make sure all adults and children in your household are up-to-date on vaccines.”

The Marion County cases are unrelated to the ongoing outbreak in Clark County, Washington, which started in January, health officials said.

A measles rash usually appears about 14 days after a person is exposed to the virus, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The health department is posting daily updates on its website.

The residents visited the following locations while contagious:

-Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center, Clackamas, March 12, 11:45 p.m. to March 13, 5 a.m.

-Revolution Foursquare Church, Portland, March 16, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and March 17, 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

-Von Ebert Brewing (Glendoveer location), Portland, March 17, 1:45 to 4:30 p.m.

-Kaiser Rockwood Medical Center, Portland, March 19, 12:30 to 3 p.m.
