Qualifying contests for Kansas Cowboy Poetry Contest set

MANHATTAN — The 2019 Kansas Cowboy Poetry Contest will begin with two regional contests and culminate with the finals at the Flint Hills Discovery Center in Manhattan.

Qualifying contests will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the J.H. Robbins Memorial Library, 219 N. Lincoln in Ellsworth; and at 7 p.m. May 3 at the Rollin "Red" Vandever Memorial Park, 10392 Jade Road in Fredonia.

Current and aspiring cowboy poets are invited to enter the regional contests, with the top four qualifiers at each advancing to the finals June 14 at the Flint Hills Discovery Center, 315 S. Third, Manhattan.

To enter, go to cowboypoetrycontest.com to print out an entry form. Contestants can recite a serious or humorous poem, or both. Awards will be presented in both categories.

The public is invited to attend all events free of charge.
