A Topeka man was arrested Sunday after a shooting in Salina that sent a woman to the hospital.

Salina Police said it was called at 4:30 p.m. Sunday to the Airliner Motel, 781 N. Broadway Blvd., for a shooting.

It was reported that subjects left the hotel in a black Ford Mustang, which was seen by an officer southbound in the 300 block of North Ninth Street and pulled over. The officer made contact with Molly Griffin, 23, of Salina, and Amanda Martinez, 34, of Assaria.

The women were staying at the motel when they heard a knock at the door. Martinez did not see anyone through the peephole and opened the door to see a man who fired two shots into the room. Police said Griffin was struck by one of the shots in the back shoulder.

Griffin was taken to the hospital for injuries that did not threaten her life.

Several witnesses said they saw the man, who was wearing a white shirt and brown or maroon shorts. An officer saw someone fitting that description in the area coming out of an alley in the 600 block of North 12th Street.

Michael Haffner, 33, of Topeka, was arrested in connection to one count of aggravated battery and one count of aggravated burglary.

Police said they recovered two 22-caliber shell casings at the scene. The case is still under investigation.
