A MAN who crashed into a wall after fleeing from police has been arrested this afternoon.

Officers were out on patrol in Salisbury and were called to the area of Five Rivers Leisure Centre at about 3.30pm after an individual made off from officers in the Moberly Road area.

When officers attended, they detained a 16-year-old boy in order to carry out a drug search.

But while at the scene, officers then spotted a man in the car park nearby who they recognised for a number of offences including conspiracy to supply a controlled drug and failing to stop following a crash.

As they approached the man, he fled in a red Seat Ibiza, crashing into two police vehicles before driving on to Devizes Road where he lost control of the car, mounted the pavement and crashed into a wall at the junction with Bedford Road.

He then fled from the scene, before being caught by officers.

He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and transported to custody in Melksham.

Nobody was injured. But a woman was treated for shock at the scene.

A member of the public’s vehicle was also damaged during the incident.

Acting Inspector John Hutchings said: “This was a fast moving incident, to which officers have responded accordingly.

"I am extremely grateful that nobody was hurt, and I am pleased that an outstanding offender has been detained.

“I’d like to thank the members of public for their patience and support as we manage the aftermath of this incident, which has caused a closure of Devizes Road, while vehicles are cleared and investigations are carried out.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident who has not yet spoken to police, should call 101 and quote log number 165.

If you have dash cam footage which may have captured the incident, please also get in touch as soon as possible.
